How to tell if your job application actually went through
The short answer
Your job application went through if you have at least one of three proofs: the confirmation page the employer's site showed right after you pressed submit, a confirmation email from the employer or its hiring system, or the application listed in your candidate account on a site that made you create one. With none of the three, treat it as not sent. The page is the strongest proof and the email is the backup. Of 987 applications submitted through ApplyLoop from July 6, 2026 to September 29, 2026, 45, about 1 in 22, were proven only by the employer's email.
The three proofs, and what each one is worth

What our own ledger says
ApplyLoop submits applications for people and keeps a receipt for each one, so it has to answer this question for every application it sends. These figures were counted on September 29, 2026 across 987 submitted applications on 18 hiring systems.

Read together they say two things. A confirmation email is quick when it comes, so waiting three days for one is waiting for nothing. And the page can fail to show while the application still lands, because a tab that hangs or times out after submit does not undo the submit. That is the 1 in 22.
What a real confirmation looks like
- A thank you that names the act. "Thank you for applying", "Application received", "Your application has been submitted", "You're all set". Hiring systems such as Greenhouse let the employer edit this page, so the wording differs from one company to the next.
- A number. An application ID, a confirmation number or a reference code is a confirmation even with no thank you beside it.
- Another language. Not every confirmation is in English. ApplyLoop's form driver recognises 70 phrasings in 5 languages for that reason.
- On Workday, your candidate home. In our runs Workday returns you to your candidate home, where the application is listed with a status and the date submitted, instead of showing a thank you page.
What looks like a confirmation and is not
- An email asking you to finish. Subjects such as Complete your application, Finish your application, Incomplete application or Action required mention an application to say it is not in yet.
- The form, again. If pressing submit brings the same form back, scroll to the top. A required field you missed is usually marked there.
- A saved draft. "Your progress has been saved" is not "your application has been received".
- A button that changed. A submit button that greys out or spins is the start of a submit, not the end of one. Wait for the page that follows.
What usually stops an application
These are attempts ApplyLoop made that did not go through, by the reason recorded, counted on September 29, 2026. Only the reasons a person applying by hand would also meet are listed. None of them was charged.

If you have no proof, do this
- Search your inbox and spam folder for the company name, then for the hiring system's name. In our records at least 77% of confirmation emails came from the hiring system's own mail domain, not the employer's.
- If the site made you create an account to apply, sign in and open your applications.
- Open the posting again. If it has closed, note the date and move on. If it is still open and a day has passed with no proof, apply once more.
- This time, screenshot the confirmation page before you close the tab. It is the one proof that does not depend on the employer sending anything.

I did not get a confirmation email. Did my application fail?
Not necessarily. The email is a template the employer controls, so its absence proves nothing by itself. Look for the other two proofs: the confirmation page you saw after pressing submit and, on sites where you made an account to apply, the application listed in your candidate account. If you have none of the three, treat the application as not sent. When the email does come, it comes fast: of 144 confirmation emails ApplyLoop matched to a submission, 141 arrived within five minutes.
How long does a job application confirmation email take?

I got an email that says "Complete your application". Does that count?
No. It proves the opposite. A subject such as Complete your application, Finish your application, Incomplete application or Action required means the employer holds a draft from you and is still waiting for you to submit it. Open the link, finish the form, and look for the confirmation page.
Should I apply again if I am not sure it went through?
Check the three proofs first, including your spam folder and your candidate account. If a day has passed with none of them and the posting is still open, apply once more and save the confirmation page this time. If the posting has closed, the first attempt was the only one, which is why saving proof at the moment you submit matters.
How does ApplyLoop prove an application was sent?

Email delay is measured from the moment our ledger recorded the submission, which can trail the submit itself by a minute or two.
